UConn’s GSR Improved From Last Year’s Mark of 89 Percent
STORRS, Conn. - Six University of Connecticut athletics teams posted perfect Graduation Success Rates (GSR) and a total of 13 Husky squads performed at 89 percent or higher, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday, October 16.
Teams that earned a GSR score of 100 percent included women's basketball and field hockey, a pair of squads that have combined to win 16 national championships, and were joined by men's and women's tennis, women's lacrosse and women's ice hockey.
The GSR data shows the percentage of student-athletes earning a degree within six years of entering college. The NCAA developed the GSR to account for student-athletes not tracked by the federal graduation rate, which includes transfers into UConn and student-athletes who transferred from UConn in good academic standing. 2019 GSR numbers are based on entering classes from 2009 to 2012.
UConn had an overall GSR score of 90%, which eclipsed last year's mark of 89 percent.
"Our student-athletes' continued success in the classroom is an enormous source of pride for everyone in the UConn community," director of athletics David Benedict said. "I have said before that we have an academic support system and a culture that helps promote this high achievement in the classroom but the consistency with which our student-athletes perform in this area is very impressive."
In addition to the six teams that garnered perfect GSR scores, seven programs posted scores of 89 percent or better including women's cross country and track & field (93 percent), women's soccer (93 percent), women's swimming & diving (94 percent), volleyball (89 percent), baseball (90 percent), men's ice hockey (96 percent) and men's swimming & diving (92 percent).
