TAMPA, Fla. - The UConn women's soccer team put forth an outstanding effort on the road against the USF Bulls on Thursday night at Corbett Stadium, eventually falling 2-1.
The match look destined for overtime but Emma Davies dialed up a long distance strike with 1:04 remaining to give the Bulls the victory.
In hot, humid conditions the Huskies held their own against a team that defeated the Huskies 4-0 last season.Â
The Huskies took the lead early in the second half on a goal from Yamilee Eveillard. Eveillard received a cross from Kess Elmore that slid past Izzy Lynch, who dummied a touch, and allowed the ball to find Eveillard. It was the third goal in three games for the junior.
USF immediately responded on a goal from one of the top scorers in the history of The Amercan, Evelyne Viens. Viens tallied her 61st career goal to tie UConn legend Rachel Hill for the most in the history of the American Conference.
Randi Palacios nearly reached her career-high by recording nine saves on the night. Against one of the top offenses in the country, the UConn defense did a solid job keeping their scorers in front for majority of the night.
UConn nearly took the lead in the first half on a two-way play by senior Sofia Leone. The senior stole the ball and passed off to Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky. Danyko-Kulchycky returned a pass to Leone inside the box but her shot was saved.
Danyko-Kulchycky had a scoring chance late in the first hafl with a free kick just outside the box but her attempt was sent into the USF wall and cleared away.
The Huskies play its final road game of the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. against No. 21 UCF in Orlando.
