No. 2 Field Hockey Opens NCAA's vs. Fairfield

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 2 UConn field hockey team (18-3) begins its road to Winston Salem with a NCAA First Round matchup against Fairfield (19-2) on Friday, Nov. 15 at 12 p.m. at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
UConn is coming off winning its eighth-straight Big East Tournament Championship and earned a host site for the 17th time in program history.Â
UCONN-FAIRFIELD HISTORY
• UConn holds a 10-0 all-time record vs. the Stags.Â
• The last matchup came on September 13, 2013, a 4-0 Huskies win. Chloe Hunnable scored a pair of goals while Marie Elena Bolles tallied three points. No. 4 UConn won the 2013 National Championship later that season.
• Series dates back to September 1, 1996.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
• Fairfield defeated American University 3-1 to record its first NCAA Tournament victory in program history.
• The Stags 19-2 record is the best in school history.
• Their 19-2 record is second best record in country behind No. 1 UNC (19-0).
HUSKIES HOSTING NCAA FIRST AND SECOND ROUNDS
• The No. 2 seed UConn Huskies are hosting for the 17th time in program history.
• This is the 31st time the Huskies have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament and its 18th-straight.
• The Huskies have reached 15 Final Fours and won five National Championships    including three in the last six seasons.
EIGHT IS GREAT
• The No. 1 seeded Huskies won their eighth-straight Big East Tournament title with a 2-0 victory against No. 2 seeded Old Dominion
• Svea Boker scored a pair of goals in the third quarter to earn Big East Most Outstanding Player recognition.
• Joining Boker on the All-Tournament team was Antonia Tiedtke, Maddy Wray, Cheyenne Sprecher and Sophie Hamilton.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
• Svea Boker ranks fifth nationally with 0.95 goals per game and fourth with 2.52 points per game.
• Antonia Tiedtke ranks tied for third in the country with 0.76 assists per game.
• Cheyenne Sprecher leads the nation with a .710 goals-against average and a .854 save percentage.
• The Huskies lead the nation with 3.38 assists per game.
• UConn ranks third nationally with 3.38 goals per game and 10.14 points per game.
• With 7.62 the Huskies are third in the country in penalty corners per contest.
