STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's cross country team is set to compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional race on Friday, November 15th.
Junior Mia Nahom was the Huskies top-finisher last time out at the American Athletic Conference Championship race just a few weeks ago. Nahom came in fourth overall, earning her a spot on the All-AAC team. UConn's top five finishers came in the top-30 overall at the AAC Championship.
Last season at the regional race, the Huskies posted a top-15 finish, coming in a 12th out of 35 teams. Mia Nahom led the way for UConn as the top-finisher with a time of 23:02.5, placing 55th overall.
"We're ready for regionals. It's going to be some crazy weather, so anything can happen," said Head Coach Lindsay Crevoiserat. The temperature in Buffalo is expected to be low 30s with 19mph winds.
"Mia is ready to put herself in a good position and see if she can get a qualifying spot into NCAAs. She will have some solid competition with her."
Several other Huskies have had solid performances throughout the season and Crevoiserat is expecting another strong showing at regionals.
"Randi Burr, Danielle Jordan, and Celia Chacko have all had strong performances at different points of the season. For regionals, we're ready to put it all together and see what we can do."
"We have a deep group, that if one person isn't exactly on that day, we have a few teammates right behind them that can pick them back up. It's a great team atmosphere."
The women's 6k championship race is set to begin at 11:00 am at the Audubon Golf Course in Buffalo, New York.
