Buffalo, N.Y. – Junior Mia Nahom finished 4th out of 266 runners at the NCAA Northeast Regional race at the Audubon Golf Course in Buffalo, New York, on Friday afternoon.
Nahom came in as the Huskies top-finisher with a time of 19:33.7, earning All-Region honors. She also qualified for the NCAA National Championship race. UConn finished 9th overall out of 37 teams competing.
"I think this is the best day we've had as a program, we got after it today and it got the men pumped. Mia had a great run up front, she covered the moves and ended up in fourth with some of the best runners in the country," said Head Coach Lindsay Crevoiserat.
Nahom is the first women's cross country runner to qualify for the national championship race since Lauren Sara in the fall of 2014.
"She's getting more confident each race and the experience is really great for her."
Senior Danielle Jordan placed 36th overall, with a time of 20:28.5. Sophomore Randi Burr finished 45th overall, coming in at 20:41.8 to round out the top three finishers for the Huskies.
"The rest of team ran great as well and had big jumps from previous years. Randi and Danielle did really well today for us. Going in, we wanted to get into the top 10 and we got 9th, so we are happy with that."
