UConn Golfers Finish Fall Schedule In Hawaii

LAHAINA, Hawaii --- The UConn men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule with three days of competition in the prestigious Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of Hawaii at the par 71 Ka'anapali Royal Golf Course in Lahaina.
Senior captain Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) led the Huskies with a 1-over, 73-70-71=214, finishing in a tie for 61st place in the huge 119-player field. It marked the fifth and sixth rounds of par or better of the season for Hull and upped that number to 41 in his career.
Sophomore Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) finished in a tie for 86th place after shooting a 7-over, 75-70-75=220, marking his fifth round of par-or-better this season and the 14th such round of his career.
Senior Tim Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.) and redshirt junior Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.) were both part of a tie for 89th place after they shot an 8-over, 67-76-78=221 and 77-72-72=221, respectively. Umphrey's 4-under 67 in the opening round was the lowest round of his college career, his fifth sub-70 round and the 21st par-or-better round of his career.
Also for the Huskies, junior Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) shot a 19-over, 80-75-77=232, and sophomore Nick Hampoian (North Reading, Mass.), playing as an individual, had an 18-over, 73-80-78=231.
As a team, in the strong 20-team field, UConn had a 22-over, 292-287-295=874, finishing in 19th place. Oklahoma won the event.
After a five-event fall schedule, the Huskies will take their winter break before returning for the spring portion of their schedule, beginning with a head-to-head match against West Virginia University on Feb. 2 at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.
