Career Step Forward For Former UConn Captain
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Former UConn golf captain Zach Zaback has earned status on the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour after finishing among the top 30 players at the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament last weekend at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge.
The Korn Ferry Tour, formerly known as the Web.com Tour, is the predominant developmental tour for the PGA Tour. Those golfers on the Korn Ferry Tour who finish in the top 25 money winners are granted PGA status for the following season.
Zaback, with his Top 30 finish in the qualifier, is guaranteed entry into the first eight tournaments of the 2020 season, which begins on Jan. 12 at The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic. Zaback will also have an invitation to The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic (Jan. 19), the Panama Championship (Jan. 30), the Country Club de Bogota Championship (Feb. 6), LECOM Suncoast Classic (Feb. 13), El Bosque Mexico Championship (Feb. 27), Chitimacha Louisiana Open (March 19), and the Lake Charles Championship (March 26). His status for the remainder of the Korn Ferry Tour schedule will be determined by those events.
Zaback, 25, fired a 12-under 66-73-67-68=274 in the qualifier to finish tied for 30th place and earn his place on the Korn Ferry Tour.
While at UConn, Zaback, formerly of Farmington (Ct.), playing out of the TPC at River Highlands, authored one of the finest four-year (2012-16) careers in UConn golf history. His overall four-year scoring average of 73.95 is second only to former UConn teammate Jimmy Hervol (72.44). Zaback had three tournament victories, 16 sub-70 rounds, and 42 rounds of par or better. He was a three-time Division I PING All-Northeast Region pick, a two-time all-conference selection, an All-New England pick and the 2014 CSGA Player of the Year.
Zaback won the 2014 and the 2016 Connecticut State Amateur Championships, finished third in the 2014 New England Amateur Championship, and qualified for the 2014 U.S. Amateur. He also won the 2016 Russell C. Palmer Cup. In 2017, he got his first taste of PGA Tour competition, winning a qualifier to earn a place in the 2017 Travelers Championship.
