STORRS, Conn. – Senior Jordan Torney (Toms River, N.J.) took second place in the two-day UConn Multi-Event Challenge on Thursday and Friday afternoon. Torney finished with a total of 5,423 points.
The senior took first place in three of the events, including the 60m dash, long jump, and the 60m hurdles. Torney also tied for second din the pole vault.
"I felt great. This was first heptathlon and this was great for me to get out here. I felt great the whole time," said Torney. "A lot of events we haven't had a lot of time to practice yet, this early, but I feel I did really well in those. Overall, I felt really good about my performance."
Torney said he felt great throughout the competition, in part, because of his training.
"We did a lot of basic training, long distance runs, hard workouts, and lifting. Now after this, we'll get a chance to go into more specific training so I can sharpen my skills. I'm really excited about this season, especially with this score early in the year, I'm just excited to keep going."
Last year's Multi-Event Challenge winner, junior Benjamin Grosse (Wayzata, Minn.) finished fourth overall with a total of 4,851 points. Grosse grabbed a first place finish tie in the high jump on day one and followed up with solid performances in the day two events, including a 1000m time of 2:49.90.
