PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The UConn swimming and diving team wrapped up its final day of competition for the fall semester on day four of the Rutgers Invite.
Catherine Fazio secured the lone first place finish on the day for the women's side with a season-best performance in the 200 Backstroke with a mark of 1:59.90.
"It was a great day/night for the team. We continue to develop and on our 4th day of racing our team charged hard toward the end of the meet," said head coach Chris Maiello. "Specifically speaking the men's and women's 1650 got the night off to a great start. Ryan's swim was a solid start and will put her in a great position heading into conference championships." Â
"Next in line was Fazio's 200 Back. This is a special swim for her, she has battled injuries and illness and it was great to see her have a positive moment in the sport. Again, we talk about development and overcoming adversity, she is a great example of that."
Ryan Dulaney earned a runner-up finish in the lengthy 1650 Free. The junior swam the event in 16:48.75.
Anna Mecca shattered her season-best time in the 200 Breaststroke with a fifth place finish time of 2:21.16.
In the 200 Fly, Ali Grace (2:01.01) and Mia Galat (2:02.19) both registered season-bests and placed third and fifth, respectively.
"Our divers closed out the Rutgers Invite with a great showing on platform, said head diving coach Josh Arndt. "This was our first time on platform this semester and the team took it in strides as the men dove to a 2-3-4 finish with Torry Wagner obtaining a 2nd place finish with a score of 233.50. On the women's side, Alyssa Annenberg and Erin Clifford finished 6th and 7th, respectively. Overall, I am happy with our performances and we know where we need to improve moving into the championship season."
UConn returns to meet action on January 18 against Dartmouth on Senior Day at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium at 1 p.m.
