Wallace Makes Stopper of the Year Watch List

GREEENVILLE, N.C. (NCBWA) – Junior right-hander Jake Wallace was named among seventy-five players to the 15th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award watch list, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced Monday.
Wallace lands on the watch list after pitching in 28 games out of the pen and served primarily as the Huskies setup man. The Methuen, Mass. native went 1-0 with a 3.95 ERA and collected three saves. He logged 43.1 innings, struck out 63 batters and held opponents to a .226 batting average against. The junior recorded 17 outings that lasted more than one inning. Wallace closed 2018 on a high note by earning Cape Cod League All-Star honors after throwing 13.2 scoreless innings on the Cape. The summer included six saves and 25 strikeouts in 12 appearances.
He was also recognized on the American Athletic Conference preseason All-Conference team in late December. Wallace joins P.J. Poulin, John Russell and Pat Ruotolo as recent UConn closers to see their name on the watch list.
The NCBWA, founded in 1962, presents the Dick Howser Trophy to the nation's top player. It also selects All-America Teams for all Divisions, a Division I Freshman All-American team, Division I, II and III Players of the Week and Division I, II and III Players of the Year.
