- The UConn Huskies open a weekend home-and-home Hockey East series with Boston University on Friday night at the XL Center. The two teams will meet for the final time this season on Saturday night at Agganis Arena in Boston. BU took the first meeting earlier this year, a 3-2 win in the opening round of the Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
- The Huskies and Terriers have met 13 times since the 2013-14 season with BU holding an 8-3-2 lead in the all-time series. The two schools met for the first time in the post season last year with BU eliminating the Huskies in the Hockey East quarterfinals.
- UConn enters the weekend on a two-game win streak after knocking off No. 13 Northeastern, 3-2 in overtime and Merrimack, 5-0, at home last week. The Huskies hadn't won two-straight this season since back in October. The win over Northeastern ended a 12-game Hockey East winless streak.
- The Huskies close out their longest homestand of the season, five games, on Friday night but will return to the XL Center for three of their final five games. UConn sits in 10th place in the Hockey East standings with 10 points, seven points behind Maine for the eighth and final playoff berth.
- Freshman goaltender Tomas Vomacka earned HEA Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors after getting both wins in net last week. He made 31 saves, matching his season-high, in beating Northeastern and got his first career shutout in the win over Merrimack.
- Freshman Ruslan Iskhakov was tabbed the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week and is riding a season-best three-game point streak into the weekend. He had four points last week, including a goal and two assists in the Merrimack win. Iskhakov went 10 games without a point but has three goals and four assists in his last three games.
- Freshman Jonny Evans put up a career-best four points on two goals and two assists in the win over Merrimack. Since returning to the lineup (missed 12 games/inj.) he has six points (2g/4a) in his last three outings.
- Senior Karl El-Mir leads the team in scoring with 25 points on 12 goals and 13 assists, both career-best marks. He 10th in Hockey East in scoring and has six power play goals, tied for second.
- Freshman Jachym Kondelik is among the league's top-rookie point producers with 24 points on four goals and 20 assists. He is third in Hockey East in freshmen scoring. He also leads the Huskies wit six multi-point games this season.Â
- In the UConn freshman record book, Kondelik's 24 points currently rank tied for eighth during the Division I era (1998-present) and 15th overall. His 20 assists is tied for second on the rookie DI list and tied for sixth all-time.
This Season vs. BU
November 23, 2018 - Friendship Four
UConn freshman Jachym Kondelik scored his first career goal but Boston University junior goaltender Jake Oettinger turned away 39 shots to lead the Terriers to a 3-2 win over the Huskies in the Friendship Four at The SSE Arena in Belfast back in November.  The Huskies put two goals on the board in the first period and outshot BU 41-30 over the game but could not crack Oettinger again over the final two periods. UConn got a 5-on-3 power play chance in the third period and peppered Oettinger with 16 shots but couldn't beat the junior netminder. UConn took a 1-0 lead at 5:20 in the first on a power play goal from senior Karl El-Mir and after BU tied it at 14:46, the Huskies took a 2-1 lead at 18:00 when Kondelik scored the first goal of his young career. BU sophomore Logan Cockerill tied the game in the second period at 8:55 and classmate Ty Amonte provided the game-winner just 2:39 into the third. UConn junior Adam Huska made 27 saves in taking the loss for the Huskies.
Scouting the Terriers
The Boston University Terriers come into the weekend in the midst of a season-long five-game losing streak. The Terriers are coming off a 5-2 loss on Monday night to Harvard in the third place game of the Beanpot. BU is sitting in seventh place in the Hockey East standings. The Terriers are led by one of the top freshmen in the country in Joel Farabee who is tied for the league lead in scoring among rookies with 26 points on 10 goals and 16 assists. Junior Dante Fabbro is one of the top-scoring defensemen in Hockey East with 23 points on six goals and 17 assists. In net, junior Jake Oettinger is the team's top-goaltender and has a 2.74 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.
