UConn Heads to URI on Friday

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's track & field team will send a limited roster to Friday's URI Pre-Conference meet for one final tune-up before next weekend's American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship.
"We will be running a very limited entry in a limited meet," commented head coach Greg Roy. "We are just looking to get some guys in events where their rhythm is important or that they are progressing in. Also, we have some guys looking to still compete to for a spot on our 32-man roster for next week."
The Huskies will head over to URI's Mackal Field House on Friday afternoon for the quick 3 pm meet with the Rams.
Junior Cameron Thompson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) will compete in the weight throw, an event he is ranked sixth in the AAC. In the pole vault, the Huskies tandem of senior Ian Bergere (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Devon McShane (Madison, Conn.) will compete. Bergere is currently ranked third in the AAC and McShane is 12th
In the sprints, a group of freshmen will compete on Friday. In the 60-meter dash, rookies Myles Calhoun (Henrietta, N.Y.) and Josiah Thompson (Jamaica, N.Y.) are set to run. In the 60 meter hurdles, the trio of Xavier Smith (West Windsor, N.J.), Konstantin Rust and Oluwatomide Alao (Jamaica, N.Y.) will run and all three are currently ranked in the top-12 in the event in the conference.
Senior Kyle Barber (Fayetteville, N.Y.) will run the 800 meters for the first time this season and will be joined by freshman Joseph Pearl (Manchester, Conn.) who is currently 11th in the AAC in the event.
Following Friday's meet, the Huskies will depart early next week for the 2019 AAC Indoor Championship being held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
