UConn to compete at ECAC Championships

STORRS, Conn.—The UConn women's track and field team will return to Boston, Mass. for the third time this indoor season to compete in the ECAC Championships.
The Huskies are traditionally a standout at this meet, having won the title a total of seven times. UConn were champions back-to-back for the 2013, 2014, and 2015 seasons.
Last year at the ECAC Championships, the Huskies were seventh overall in a field of 41 teams. Susan Anneo headlined the meet for UConn, taking home the only first-place finish. Aneno's gold came in the 800 Meters where she ran a time of 2:09.43. Mia Nahom also took on the Mid-Distance event to finish sixth with a time of 2:11.20.
Other top finishes for the Huskies were Kat Surin, Katie Foley, Divine Oladipo, and Amaris Blount. Surin posted, a then personal best, in the 400 Meter Dash to take home bronze in the event at 54.02. Foley's time of 1:13.40 in the 500 Meters placed her at fifth. UConn also had two student-athletes post top-10 finishes in field events; Oladipo's Shot Put of 15.23m placed at in fifth and Blount's Weight Throw of 17.63m tabbed her at seventh.
The 2019 indoor campaign has been one of great success for the Huskies. Through six events including the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, UConn has had five different occasions where they have had two or more first-place finishers. The Huskies have broken several school records and established at least 10 personal bests at every meet.
Most recently at the 2019 AAC Indoor Championships, Aneno became a two-time champion in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:06.49. Surin's continued progress in the 400 Meters payed off as she took home gold in the event for the first time with at time of 53.97. Oladipo reclaimed her crown as Shot Put Champion with a 16.59m effort as well. UConn finished fifth overall.
