UConn to Face UCF for American Championship

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The top-seeded UConn women's basketball team (30-2) faces No. 2 UCF (26-5) for the American Athletic Conference tournament championship Monday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
The Huskies advanced to their 15th straight conference tournament final with an 81-45 win over USF Sunday. Sophomore Megan Walker scored 24 points while senior Napheesa Collier had 23 points and 12 rebounds for her 19th double-double of the season.
The Huskies went 16-0 in conference play to earn the No. 1 seed in the tournament. UConn has won the previous five American Conference Tournament titles. The Huskies have won 23 conference tournament championships in program history.
Including the conference tournament, UConn is 119-0 in American Athletic Conference games.
The Huskies brought in numerous regular season conference honors Collier was tabbed the American's Player and Defensive Player of the Year while Christyn Williams was named the Freshman of the Year. Head coach Geno Auriemma earned the league's Coach of the Year honors. Collier, senior Katie Lou Samuelson and junior Crystal Dangerfield were named to the All-Conference First Team and sophomore Megan Walker was tabbed to the Third Team.
UConn is 10-0 all-time vs. UCF. The teams faced off twice in the regular season with the Huskies picking up a 93-57 win in Hartford and a 78-41 win in Orlando. The Knights advanced to the championship game with a 66-58 win over Cincinnati Saturday. This season, Kay Kay Wright leads UCF with 18.5 points per game.
