Marcello Heads to NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior captain Monica Marcello is set to compete in the NCAA Diving Championships in Austin, Texas beginning on Wednesday, March 20 and running through Saturday, March 23.
Marcello qualified for the 1M and 3M events in the NCAA A Zones last week in Annapolis, Md. She secured second place in the preliminaries with a mark of 307.10 and then bettered her mark in the finals with a score of 632.35 to capture a runner-up finish.in the 3M.
She totaled a score of 539.80 to earn a berth into the NCAA Championships in the 1-meter event.

.She is the first Husky since Alli Butera in 2017 to reach the NCAA National Championships.
The UConn diving team has a legacy of reaching the pinnacle of the sport under head coach John Bransfield with divers qualifying for Nationals in seven of the past nine years (2011, '12, '13, '15, '16, '17, '19).
Marcello was exceptional at The American Conference Championships in late February, where the Middletown, Conn. native set the Conference record in the 3M dive en route to gold and secured a silver medal in the 1M event.
