Marcello, Bransfield Honored On Final Day

INDIANAPOLIS – Senior captain Monica Marcello and head diving coach John Bransfield earned postseason awards after a superb 2019 American Championship.
Marcello earned Women's Most Outstanding Diver after setting a Championship record in the 3M dive on Friday night and placed second in the 1M event earlier in The Championships. 21st year head diving coach John Bransfield received Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the third time in the past four seasons.
The UConn women finished the Championships on Saturday in fifth place with a score of 466 points.
Sophomore Ryan Dulaney earned her second medal of The Championships with a silver medal performance in the 1650 Free. She secured second place with a time of 16:34.13.
Senior Julie Hu (200 Breast, 8th), Sona Pinela (200 Fly, 8th) and Monica Marcello (Platform, 6th) all recorded top-eight finishes in the finals.
UConn is also competing at the ECAC Championships at the U.S. Naval Academy. Here are some of the highlights from their weekend.
- Lena Redisch won the 500 Free
- Molly Franklin won the 400 IM
- Anna Mecca captured a runner-up finish in the 100 Breast
That ends the season for the women's swimmers. The women's diving team will compete in the NCAA Zones from Monday, March 11-13 in Annapolis, Md.
