STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's tennis team played their first home match of the spring on their outdoor courts on campus on Saturday, hosting American Athletic Conference opponent Houston on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies dropped a 7-0 decision to the Cougars, falling to 1-2 against AAC schools this season.
"We came up against a tough conference opponent in Houston today," stated head coach Glenn Marshall. "The scores don't reflect how close the match was, with several three setters and many other tightly contested sets. They were just a little better in clutch situations today, and that was the difference. The effort and fight was there in singles, we just need to play better in the close moments."
At No. 2 singles, freshman Julieanne Bou (Baymon, Puerto Rico) lost a tough three-set battle to Mimi Kendall-Woseley, 7-5, 4-6, and 6-2. At No. 4 singles, junior Cassie Chung (Vancouver, British Columbia) won her first set against Jovana Vukovic, 6-2, but fell in a tough battle losing 6-4 and 6-4 in the second and third sets.
The Huskies are back at home on Wednesday afternoon when they will play host to UMass.
