PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Back-to-back sub-70 rounds against a prestigious field at the Clemson Invitational last weekend have earned UConn senior co-captain Jimmy Hervol honors as the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) equaled his career-best round with a sizzling 8-under 64 during Sunday's final round at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C., which followed his 4-under 68 in Saturday's second round. For the tournament, Hervol's 10-under 206 placed him in a tie for seventh in the 81-player field. Hervol played the Par 3 holes in 4-under to lead the tournament and tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 20.
The result was Hervol's sixth Top 10 Finish of the year and the 19th of his career, to go with 24 career sub-70 rounds. The 206 score was the lowest of the season for UConn's scoring leader (71.0). Hervol is a two-time all-conference selection, a two-time Division I PING All-Northeast Region Team selection and a three-time AAC All-Academic Team pick. It is the second in-season league honor for the senior, who was named the AAC Player of the Month in September, 2016.
Wichita State's Laine Evans was named the AAC Women's Golf Player of the Week.
Hervol and the Huskies will return to action this weekend, competing in the Rutherford Invitational on the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.
