NEW YORK – UConn women's basketball seniors Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier were selected in the first round of the 2019 WNBA Draft Wednesday at the Nike New York Headquarters.
Samuelson was picked fourth overall by the Chicago Sky. Collier was picked sixth overall by the Minnesota Lynx.
UConn has had 38 WNBA draft selections since the league's inception in 1997. The Huskies have had at least one player selected in the draft 20 times in the last 22 years, including a current 12-year streak.
Since the WNBA was founded, UConn has had 25 first round picks. This season is the 12th time multiple Huskies have been taken in the same draft.
Samuelson joins former Huskies Gabby Williams '18 and Stefanie Dolson '14 on the Sky. Collier is on Minnesota's roster with fellow Missouri native and 2011 UConn alum Maya Moore, who will sit out the 2019 season.
