Huskies tussle with Cougars in Friday night match up

HOUSTON, Texas—The UConn softball team traveled to the Lone Star State for their fourth American Athletic Conference series of the 2019 campaign. First-pitch came at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time, as the Huskies squared off with the Cougars.
Redshirt-sophomore Olivia Sappington and sophomore Briana Marcelino were the duo to post a pair of hits for UConn on the evening. Sappington knocked a perfectly positioned single to field to open up the hitting department for the Huskies in the top of the second. Sappington was 1-2 in the contest.

Marcelino was the leadoff batter for UConn entering the top of the fourth. She made the most of her opportunity going 1-1 in the game. Marcelino nailed the hit in the direction of the shortstop, getting the drop on the Cougar after being walked earlier in the afternoon.

Houston brought in four baserunners in the opening half inning, and added five more to their efforts the in the inning to follow.
Sophomore Marybeth Olson started in the circle for the Huskies and was relieved by junior Katie Koshes. Koshes tossed the remaining several innings, leading UConn to an errorless defensive effort.
