Huskies Mourn Passing of Ginny O'Neill

STORRS, Conn. – It is with sadness that the UConn field hockey family has learned of the passing of former player Ginny O'Neill.
A four-year member of the team from 1981-84, O'Neill was a member of UConn's first NCAA National Championship winning team in 1981. The Huskies competed in the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons, including trips to the Final Four each year and three appearance in the national championship game.
O'Neill came off the bench as a sophomore and started her junior and senior seasons at back, marking opponents' top players. She was named to the USA squad in summer 1984.
A native of Stamford, Conn., O'Neill majored in finance at UConn and graduated in 1985.
O'Neill is survived by her family, Nancy Dumont (Tad), Maureen Pape (Glenn), Joseph O'Neill (Cynthia), John O'Neill (Mary Pat), Eileen Curry (John), and Betty Denny (Ron). Ginny is survived by a very special friend of the family, Marilyn Higgins. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her nieces, nephews, and great nieces/nephews who surrounded her with love.
