STORRS, Conn. - UConn closer Jake Wallace earned First Team Baseball America All-American honors on Monday morning, as announced by the publication.
The junior right hander was selected in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies, becoming the highest drafted reliever in UConn history.Â
Wallace had a historic season on the mound for the Huskies by recording a 0.64 ERA in 42.0 innings. The 0.64 ERA ranks fifth-lowest in single-season history. The Metheun, Mass native tied a single-season record with 16 saves, tying his former teammate and potential future teammate in the Rockies organization, P.J. Poulin (2018). Wallace has been named a First Team All-New England and All-Conference member. The right hander is also one of five pitchers up for National Pitcher of the Year and is one of six finalists for NCBWA Stopper of the Year award that is given to the top reliever in college baseball. Wallace also earned Second Team All-American status from Collegiate Baseball.
