UConn tussles with Navy on final day of The Service Academy Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The UConn volleyball team (1-2) concluded The Service Academy Challenge after a tough battle with Navy (2-1) on Saturday, August 31st in the Pentagon, with a final score of 3-0. The Huskies played a tight contest with the Rams with set scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-17.
Freshman Allie Garland notched the first kill of the match via a beautiful set from Courtney Morris. The teams played a back-and-forth opening set, with mini rallies but no real distance being put between the two. With the score at 9-7 UConn, Navy scored another point to bring themselves within one and tie the game at nine all. The momentum would shift in favor of the Rams who would begin to stretch away from the Huskies on the way to 25.
As a team, UConn posted 31 kills on 78 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .218. Leaders for the Huskies on the day were Caylee Parker, Genna Florig, Aset Baker-Falealili, and Kennadie Jake-Turner. Parker tallied seven kills, a service ace, an assist, and four digs. Florig's eight kills were paired with her trio of blocks. Baker-Falealili was an active part of UConn's system with a pair of service aces and assists, seven digs. Jake-Turner added a block and several digs.
Up next the Huskies will return to Storrs to host the UConn Challenge on Thursday, September 5th through Saturday, September 7th. UConn will face Iona, Boston College, and Central Connecticut State.
