WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - First career goals from senior Sofia Leone and redshirt sophomore Rachel Marchini completed a second half comeback for the Huskies on Sunday night, defeating Colgate, 2-1, at Al-Marzook Field on the campus of the University of Hartford.
Despite controlling the vast majority of the first half, the Huskies entered halftime trailing the Raiders 1-0. Goalkeeper Randi Palacios helped stop a penalty kick attempt in the 12th minute but on the ensuing corner kick, Colgate was able to convert and take an early advantage.
Sophomore Duda Santin nearly found an equalizer on a couple of quality direct kick looks, including a leaping save by Kelly Chiavaro at 19:07.
Leone finally cashed in for the Huskies at 50:01 on a feed from redshirt sophomore Kess Elmore. Elmore rifled a cross into the box that Leone was able to settle and slide past the keeper.
The Huskies continued to apply pressure throughout the half and took the lead at 77:12. Freshman Jackie Harnett served a perfect pass off a corner kick that found the head of Marchini. The Waterford, Conn. native directed the ball past the goal line and gave UConn its first lead of the match.

Next up, the Huskies return to the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Brown.
