WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UConn men's soccer team was defeated by No. 5 Georgetown, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Shaw Field. Sophomore Felix Metzler tallied the Huskies' lone goal of the match.
UConn was unable to get the offense flowing fluently as they were outshot 23-7, including a 7-2 disadvantage in shots-on-goal. Sophomore keeper Gianluca Catalano made three saves in the loss.
Georgetown broke a scoreless tie at 10:21 off the foot of Dante Polvara, who tallied his third goal of the season after collecting the ball from being bounded around the box and put one into the back of the cage to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead.
The Hoyas increased their lead to two goals following Jack Beer's first strike of the year in the 37th minute. Georgetown would take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break, holding a 12-2 shot advantage.
The Huskies emerged from the locker room with new life as they looked to get back into the game, finally breaking through onto the scoreboard at 46:38. Metzler lined one up from outside the box and rifled the shot into the far post to cut the UConn deficit to 2-1 and grab some of the momentum back.
After bringing themselves within one, the Huskies continued to apply pressure as they searched for the equalizer. Unfortunately, Georgetown would end all chances of a UConn comeback with two more goals in the second half.
Jacob Montes (67th) regained the two-goal lead for the Hoyas after converting from the far left side and Derek Dodson (79th) drilled one into the far post – extending Georgetown's advantage to 4-1 and putting the game out of reach.

The Huskies move to Dillon Stadium where they will play the remainder of their home games this season, starting with Tuesday night's (Sept. 17) match against the Manhattan College Jaspers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
