UConn Remains In Contention After Round 2

HAMPDEN, Mass. – The UConn golf team remained in contention at its own UConn Invitational at GreatHorse with a solid round of 6-over 294 in Round 2 on Monday, maintaining fourth place, just eight shots behind tourney leader Columbia.
The tourney's third and final round takes place Tuesday.
Led by senior captain Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.), who shot an even par 72 to tie for fourth place individually (1-under, 71-72=243), the Huskies have an aggregate 16-over 298-294=592. Columbia leads the 14-team field with an 8-over 584, followed by Lafayette (12-over, 588), with Rider in third place (13-over 589).
Hull had some solid support as redshirt junior Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.) fired a 1-under 71 on Monday to climb up the leaderboard with a two-round 5-over, 78-71=149) and tie with junior teammate Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass., 75-74=149) for 16th place in the 84-player field. Hartford's Ryan Tomaso leads the tournament with a 6-under, 67-71=138.
Sophomore Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) is in a tie for 26th place with a 7-over, 74-77=151, while junior Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) stands in a tie for 58th place with a 13-over, 78-79=157.
UConn also has five players competing as individuals, led by senior Tim Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.), who is in 9th place with a 3-over, 75-72=147, and sophomore Nick Hampoian, who is tied for 16th place with a 5-over, 78-71=149.
Junior Finn Boynton (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Matt Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.) were part of a tie for 70th place with a 16-over, 84-76=160 and a 16-over, 79-81=160, respectively. Freshman Logan Broyles (Rutland, Vt.) is tied for 76th place with a 19-over, 79-84=163.
Heading into the final round, UConn leads the field in Par 5 scoring (-5) and total birdies (16) and is second in Par 3 scoring (+2). Individually, Boulger is tied for the lead in Par 5 scoring (-3), while Tim Umphrey and Boynton share the lead in total pars (14).
