HUSKY BITES:
- UConn is led by first-year head Coach Laura Valentino, who took over the helm in July. Valentino was most recently an assistant coach at Duke, which initiated its softball program prior to the 2018 season.
- Winners of their last seven games, the UConn softball team boasts an 8-2 record after the first two weeks of the season. This is the program's best start through 10 games since 2007, when the team started the year 9-1.
- As a team, the Huskies have accounted for 79 hits, 52 runs, 49 RBI's, 18 doubles, three home runs and a .375 BA. Defensively, UConn has accumulated 68 strikeouts and limited its opponents to just 24 runs, 24 hits through 274 at-bats, and a .188 opponent batting average.
- Sophomore Aziah James and junior Marybeth Olson were named the American Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 17.
- James was bestowed the crown of conference's top player after posting stellar numbers through her 20 at-bats. The Spring, Texas native started all five games, nabbing 10 runs, 11 hits, an RBI, five stolen bases and a .550 average. On the defensive side of the diamond, James had six putouts while also making a couple of highlight-worth saves.
- Following a selection to the honor roll in week one, Olson (4-0) locked up this week's major conference honor with a pair of dominant performances in the circle, which included tossing a no-hitter in the 8-0 victory over Central Michigan Friday afternoon. Through 13 innings pitched she struck out 16 batters, allowing just five hits, three walks and one run. Additionally, Olson had an ERA of 0.54.
