Huskies Lose on the Road to Temple, Villanova and Delaware

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's tennis team had a three match weekend where they went on the road to face AAC foe Temple, Villanova and Delaware.
The Huskies fell to the Owls, 7-0, and lost to both the Wildcats and Fightin' Blue Hens by 6-1 scores.
In the loss to Villanova, freshman Nicholas Gore (Kingston, Jamacia) picked-up the Huskies' point, winning his No. 6 singles match in a three-set battle. Gore beat Justin Suarez 7-6 (4), 4-6, and 12-10. Senior Evan Powell (Guilford, Conn.) lost a tough three-setter at the No. 5 spot, falling to Alex Kim, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-6.
In Sunday's loss to Delaware, UConn came out strong and grabbed the opening doubles point. Junior Yili Zheng (Shanghai, China) and freshman Rami Scheetz (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) posted a 6-4 win at No. 2 over G. Valdolierios and Justice Jones. It came down to the No. 1 spot and junior John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Christian Provenzano (Montclair, N.J.) clinched it with a 7-6 win.
The Huskies return to action this weekend with a match against Fairfield at the Tennis Club of Trumbull on Saturday, February 8 and against Fordham at the Tennis and Fitness Center of Rocky Hill on Sunday, February 9.
