NEWARK, N.J. - The UConn women's tennis team closed out their weekend with a match at NJIT on Saturday afternoon and lost for the first time this spring, falling 4-0 to the Highlanders.
"We came up against a very good team today," commented director of tennis Glenn Marshall. "NJIT was a deep team, that really put pressure on us in every match. They really stepped up and played well to earn the victory. We did compete well in many spots, starting with a nice win at number three doubles."
"We played to clinch, but Mireille and Luciana had many bright spots in their matches. Denise and Selen came up against better opponents today, and we had to default our number 6 singles, so it was a tough day, but we fought all the way."
The Huskies grabbed a doubles win at the No. 3 spot as the junior-freshman combo of Elizabeth Kozyi (Alexandria, Va.) and Doga Selen Takunyaci (Istanbul, Turkey) won a 7-5 battle over Adara Omar and Advaita Saravanan.
UConn is back on the road next weekend as they head to Philadelphia, Pa. to face Drexel and AAC foe Temple.
