Release per Mansfield-Ashford Little League President Michael Pietras
MANSFIELD, Conn. - On Monday March 23, 2020, the Mansfield Town Council unanimously approved a request from the Mansfield-Ashford Little League (M-ALL) to name the primary Little League field at Southeast Park the Andrew J Baylock Field. Â
The M-ALL is honoring a man who has been very important to the game of baseball in Connecticut as well as a friend and neighbor in the Town of Mansfield for more than 50 years. Coach Baylock has driven past our fields throughout the years on his way to and from work at the University of Connecticut and has often stopped to watch games during the spring and summer seasons.  As a longstanding head baseball coach at UConn, Coach Baylock has been successful in guiding young baseball players and committed to the growth of the game, especially in Mansfield.  He has donated his time, money, equipment, and knowledge to the M-ALL over the years and we are eternally grateful for his support.  We believe it is an appropriate time to honor him for his lifetime achievements.  He is a personal friend and true ambassador for the games of baseball and softball. We hope to pass on his example to the young ballplayers who will run the bases on "his" field for years to come.
M-ALL had anticipated holding an official ceremony during the league's Opening Day on May 2, 2020, but the current season has been suspended until further notice.Â
The M-ALL would like to thank Curt Vincente, Jay O'Keefe and the Mansfield Parks and Recreation, the Recreation Advisory Committee, acting Town Manager John Carrington, Mayor Toni Moran, the Ad-Hoc Naming Committee and the Mansfield Town Council for supporting us in this endeavor.
Coach Baylock was the head coach of UConn baseball team for 24 seasons, in which he posted a 556-492-8 record, guiding the Huskies to BIG EAST Championships in 1990 and 1994, along with a trio of NCAA tournament berths. . Including his tenure as an assistant baseball coach, Baylock compiled an 822-614-11 record over 39 years with the Huskies. Baylock was an assistant baseball coach from 1964-79, helping UConn to the College World Series in 1965, 1972 and 1979, before assuming the head coaching reigns in 1980.
