Huskies Patiently Wait For Elliot Ballpark Debut
STORRS, Conn. - Under normal circumstances the UConn baseball team should have been playing its first game at brand new Elliot Ballark on Sunday, March 29 against Seton Hall.
Instead with the cancellation of the remainder of the 2020 season due to Covid-19, the Huskies will have to wait a little bit longer to play in their new home.
UConn graduates, Doug and Sheila Elliot, have been the cornerstones of getting the Huskies new home built and Coach Penders initially thought of them when hearing word of the season being cancelled.
"Doug and Sheila have been waiting longer than just about anyone else, said Penders. We have waited 17 years, we can wait 18."
The Huskies will open now set to open the ballpark while returning to the Big East Conference in 2021 and will also be getting access to their new Performance Center that will feature locker rooms, offices, athletic training, weight training and hitting tunnels.
We're very much looking forward to calling that our home. That's what it was about for the get-go, coming home. Having one place to call our home instead of four or five different facilities on campus. Just one spot."
