Ben Freeman Signs with Maine Mariners of ECHL

STORRS, Conn. - Former UConn captain Benjamin Freeman, of Falmouth, Maine, signed a professional contract with the Maine Mariners of the ECHL for the 2020-21 season. The Mariners are an affiliate of the NHL's New York Rangers organization.
For the second-straight season in 2019-20, Freeman wore a letter on his jersey, being named a team captain for his senior season. At the end of the season, Freeman became the first Husky to win the Len Ceglarski Individual Sportsmanship Award winner given out by Hockey East. Over 33 games, Freeman did not take one penalty on the season. He closed out his career with 135 games played, 77 career points on 25 goals and 52 assists.
Freeman played in 33 games his senior season and led the Huskies in scoring with a career-best 28 points on seven goals and 21 assists. Defensively, he posted 20 blocked shots and in the face-off circle, he led the Huskies and all Hockey East players winning 359 face-offs.
