UConn MBB Starts 3-Game Road Swing At Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. โ The UConn men's basketball team gets a big taste of life on the road over the next week, playing three consecutive BIG EAST road games, starting Tuesday night in Milwaukee against Marquette. Road games follow at Butler on Saturday and at DePaul on Monday, Jan. 11.
UConn' s (4-1 overall, 1-1 BIG EAST) first true road game of the season will be at a band-new arena for the Huskies, competing for the first time at Fiserv Forum. During UConn's first tenure in the BIG EAST, it played against Marquette at the since-demolished Bradley Center.
The Huskies begin a busy, nine-game January against Marquette (6-5. 2-3), which is coming off a 64-60 road victory at Georgetown. Sophomore James Bouknight (Brooklyn, N.Y.) still leads UConn in scoring (23.2) and has already had three 20-point games. He has rising support, however, from junior Tyrese Martin (Allentown, Pa.), who had a double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds) in the Dec. 30 victory over DePaul and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Jan. 4. Martin is the Huskies' leading rebounder (9.3) and third leading scorer (10.3).
Junior R.J. Cole (Union, N.J.) is UConn's other double-figure scorer (10.6) and the leader in assists (3.8). The other starting spots are manned by senior Isaiah Whaley (Gastonia, N.C.), who averages 8.2 ppg and 5.8 rpg, and either senior Josh Carlton (Winterville, N.C.) or freshman Adama Sanogo (Bamako, Mali).
Marquette features a balanced attack with four double-figure scorers, led by Koby McEwen (13.5). The Golden Eagles, who are 4-3 at home so far this season, have dominated the boards, outrebounding opponents by a 6.7 rpg margin.
UConn has a 3-6 all-time record against Marquette, but the two teams have not met since January, 2013.
