Huskies, Friars Battle to 1-1 Tie

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UConn women's soccer team (8-6-1, 4-3-1 BIG EAST) battled with Providence (8-5-3, 3-3-2) to a 1-1 tie Thursday evening.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Mahoney made a career-high 14 saves vs. the Friars. She made seven saves in the second half and three saves in the second overtime period to keep the game tied.
Sophomore Jaydah Bedoya, who is the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, notched her fourth goal in the last five games in the 47th minute off an assist from Jada Konte.
Bedoya leads the Huskies with six goals this season. Konte has recorded a point in three straight games.
After a scoreless first half, Bedoya scored to give UConn a 1-0 lead just 72 seconds into the second half. Providence scored the tying goal in the 69th minute off a set piece. The Friars led the game 31-8 in shots.
The Huskies' final regular season game at Morrone Stadium is Sunday vs. Xavier at 1 p.m. UConn will honor Rachel Marchini, Halle Palmedo, Kara Long, Isabelle Lynch, Kelsey Kohler and Duda Santin on Senior Day.
On Sunday, the Huskies will also celebrate High School Day, Goal Patrol Day and Jersey Day.
