UConn Falls to Providence 2-1

PROVIDENCE – The University of Connecticut men's soccer team fell to Providence 2-1 Saturday night. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 6-5-2 on the season and 2-4-2 in conference play.
The first half was a defensive stalemate, with neither team able to create a real chance on net. The first shot on goal for both teams came 26 minutes into the contest when sophomore Jayden Reid took a shot from outside the box which was saved by the Providence keeper.
PC would follow with a chance of its own but graduate student goalkeeper Jahmali Waite would make the save. Both teams would head into the locker room tied with only one shot on goal.
Providence opened the scoring in the 56 minute when a shot rang off the crossbar into the goal. UConn picked up the pressure following the Providence goal however only had one shot on goal through 65 minutes. Freshman forward Okem Chime would find the back of the net in the 69th minute to tie the game, giving him four on the season. Providence's best chance to break the tie came in the 75th minute when a providence shot rang off the post.
Both teams continued to rely on their defense following the goal by UConn. Providence would score to take the 2-1 lead with minutes left. The Huskies were unable to find a late equalizer as they would fall to the Friars 3-2.

UConn returns home to host Rutgers on Tuesday, October 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium.
