STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's volleyball team finished off the season sweep of DePaul, earning its second straight 3-0 outcome against the Blue Demons Sunday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion.
Senior Caylee Parker was a force on the attack, recording a team-best 14 kills on a .540 hitting percentage. Fellow senior Kennadie Jake-Turner was also incredibly efficient, slashing a .611 hitting percentage and 12 kills.
UConn (15-7, 7-3 BIG EAST) won the first two sets convincingly before battling back in the third set for a 28-26 victory. With the result, the Huskies boosted their record to 11-0 against DePaul (12-8, 5-5 BIG EAST) in the all-time series, and registered their sixth sweep of the series.
Jake-Turner started hot, ripping three straight kills early on before junior Jasmine Davis added two of her own to put the Huskies ahead, 12-7. DePaul caught the hot hand and briefly took the upper hand, 17-16, but Davis put UConn back in front, and Parker swung her fifth kill of the set give UConn the opening point.
The Blue Demons grabbed an 8-3 edge to start the following frame, but Jake-Turner bookended a 4-0 streak to get the Huskies within one. DePaul went ahead by two until junior Mia Ruffolo capped a 5-0 spurt with a service ace to make it a 17-14 game, and UConn never let DePaul come closer than two as it took the second set.
Looking to extend the match, DePaul held a commanding 22-18 grip in the third set, but the Huskies worked another comeback, as graduate student student McKayla Wuensch fed Davis for a pair of kills, and three straight Blue Demon errors knotted the score at 24-all.
DePaul and and the Huskies exchanged advantages as the match remained tied at 26-26, but Jake-Turner ended the game with back-to-back kills to bump UConn's home record to 10-2.
UConn will hit the road next weekend for contests at Xavier (Oct. 30) and Butler (Oct. 31).
