Seton Hall Snaps UConn's Six-Game Win Streak

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Taking the road for the final time of regular season, the UConn women's volleyball team saw its six-game win streak snapped in a hard-fought contest at Seton Hall, 3-1, Friday night at Walsh Gymnasium.
Riding the emotion of Senior Night, Seton Hall (12-17, 4-11 BIG EAST) claimed the first set before UConn (20-8, 12-4 BIG EAST) battled back to even the match. The Pirates fended off the Huskies' comeback attempts in both the third and fourth sets for their second home win of the season.
Senior Caylee Parker continued her torrid weekend, leading UConn with 17 kills and five blocks. Junior Allie Garland and senior Kennadie Jake-Turner also posted double figures in kills with 12 and 10, respectively, and graduate student McKayla Wuensch dealt out 40 assists.
The first set featured 12 ties to start until sophomore Taylor Pannell delivered a kill from the left side to puts the score in favor of the Huskies, 21-20. Seton Hall claimed the next two points, but UConn claimed three of the next four, and forced set point after a kill from senior Kennadie Jake-Turner. However, the Pirates called a timeout and won the following three points to take the opening set, 26-24.
Seton Hall carried the momentum into the second set by starting with a 5-1 spurt. Once again, UConn battled back and the breakneck back-and-forth pace continued as the score held at 21-all late in the frame. Junior Jasmine Davis and Parker went for back-to-back swings from the left side until Garland joined in on the attack from the right, and an attacking error by the Pirates put the set away, 25-22, as the Huskies tied the match.
Down 17-12 in the third frame, Wuensch went for a setter dump to recharge the offense, but the Pirates kept the Huskies at bay as they pushed their grip to 22-15. Working another comeback effort, Parker bookended a 5-1 run to make it a three-point game. The Huskies continued to climb back, fending off match point three times before a swing from Jake-Turner put UConn within one, but an attacking error gave Seton Hall the set, 25-23.
The Pirates stormed out to a 7-2 advantage to start the fourth. Utilizing its comeback magic, the Huskies clawed their way back into the match, and a block by Garland and Davis knotted the scoreboard at 10-all. Exchanging points down the stretch, Parker put UConn up 22-20, but Seton Hall answered with a 5-1 run to take the game.
UConn will close out the regular season at home against Butler (Nov. 18) and Xavier (Nov. 19). The Huskies will honor Anna Petrova, Klaudia Sowizral, and McKayla Wuensch as part of Senior Day on Saturday.
