UConn Track Opens with Blue & White Meet

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's and women's track & field teams got a chance to compete for the first time since the 2019 indoor season last weekend with the intrasquad Blue and White meet at Hugh S. Greer Field House. With the team split into two teams the White team edged out the Blue team, 66-60 over 17 events.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
On the track...
- In the 40 m high hurdles, on the men's side it was a tight race with freshman Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) edging the field at 5.5 seconds. For the women, fellow freshman Felicia Quainoo (Metuchen, N.J.) won with a time of 6.0 seconds.
- In the women's 400 meters, junior Shanelle Colmon (East Brunswick, N.J.) ran a 57.2 seconds and in the men's 300 m, junior Aaron Hackett (Upper Marlboro, Md.) clocked a 36.7 seconds.
- Senior Amy Piccolo (Walpole, Mass.) won the 800 m with a time of 2:14 and in the men's 600 m, junior Noah Woodman (Hampstead, N.H.) was the winner with a time of 1:20.
- In the 40 m dash, the women's race was won by freshman Brianna Davis (Bay Shore, N.Y.) with a time of 5.4 seconds and on the men's side, junior Josiah Thompson (Jamacia, N.Y.) just edged the field with a time of 4.8 seconds.
In the field...
- In the men's weight throw, junior Chris Keegan (West Hartford, Conn.) won it for the Blue team with a throw of 17.85 m (58'6.75") and on the women's side senior Channel Botsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia) also won it for the Blue team with a throw of 18.28 m (59'11.75"). In the shot put, senior Todd Stueber (Toms River, N.J.) won with a mark of 17.25 meters (56'7.25"). Â
- Seniors Safir Scott (Greenwich, Conn.) and Daniel Claxton (Nesconset, N.Y.) went one-two in the high jump, both clearing the 7'0" mark. On the women's side, senior Kelly Ward (Oxford, Conn.) won it for the White squad with a height fo 5'6".
- In the pole vault, sophomore Travis Snyder (Saco, Maine) was tops with a height of 16'0" while senior Laurel Bailey (Shelton, Conn.) ont he women's side cleared 11'6", both on the Blue Team.
- The women contested the triple jump and the long jump and the Blue team picked up wins in both. Freshman Zayin Roe (Richmond, Va.) posted a mark of 11.70 m (38'4.75") in the triple and senior Taylor Woods (Upper Marlboro, Md.) was tops in the long jump at 5.89 m (19'4").
