Despite putting up 19 shots and creating nine penalty corner chances, the University of Connecticut field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to Liberty on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Temple University in Philadelphia. With the loss, the Huskies slip to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the loop. The Flames improve to 8-1 on the year and 7-1 in BIG EAST play.Â
The four goals scored was the most given up by the Huskies since October 7, 2018 in a 5-2 loss to No. 5 Princeton.Â
The Huskies ended the day with a 19-7 shot advantage, including a 14-6 edge in shots on goal. UConn also accumulated nine penalty corners and allowed the Flames only two corner attempts.
After scoring late in the first quarter, Liberty made it 2-0 when Daniella Rhodes drew UConn keeper Cheyenne Sprecher out and snuck the ball around her midway through the second quarter.
After allowing a third goal off a penalty corner, the Huskies nearly trimmed the Liberty lead to two goals with 2:30 remaining in second quarter. Jessica Dembrowski redirected a shot off of a UConn penalty corner but it was saved at the goal line by Bolton to preserve the 3-0 Flames lead.
UConn is back in action on Thursday, March 18 when the team heads down I-91 to take on Quinnipiac. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Hamden.
