No. 1 Huskies to Face Syracuse in NCAA Second Round

SAN ANTONIO – The top-seeded UConn women's basketball team (25-1) faces eighth-seeded Syracuse (15-8) in the NCAA Tournament Second Round Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN and 97-9 ESPN.
UConn opened NCAA Tournament play with a 102-59 win over High Point in the First Round. Freshman Paige Bueckers led UConn with 24 points, six assists and four steals. Bueckers scored the most points for a UConn freshman in an NCAA debut. Freshman Aaliyah Edwards notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Five Huskies notched double-digit points as
UConn won its 27th straight First Round game against the Panthers. The Huskies moved to 102-11 in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed.
The Huskies are 27-2 all-time in the NCAA Second Round. UConn has won 26 straight NCAA Second Round games.
No. 8-seed Syracuse advanced to the Second Round with a 72-55 win over ninth-seeded South Dakota State Sunday. Emily Engstler led the Orange with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kiara Lewis leads Syracuse with 14.3 points per game. Tiana Mangakahia leads the nation with 7.47 assists per game. The Orange rank third nationally with 7.17 blocks per game. Head coach Quentin Hillsman is in his 15th season at Syracuse.
UConn is 39-12 all-time vs. Syracuse as the programs used to be conference rivals in the BIG EAST. The Huskies and Orange have faced off in the NCAA Tournament twice before. UConn defeated Syracuse, 82-51, in the 2016 NCAA Championship game before picking up a 94-64 win in the 2017 Second Round.
