STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's track & field team opened their outdoor season with a win on Saturday in the four-team UConn Spring Invite at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex on campus.
It was a two-point UConn lead heading into the final track event of the day, the 4x400 relay, and the Huskies finished in winning fashion, sealing up the team win on the day with a 3:54.10 win.
The Huskies finished the 19 event meet with 209 points to finish in front of Army West Point, with 184. Quinnipiac was third with 90 points and Northeastern finished fourth with 64 points. UConn finished the day winning four events on the track and three in the field.
"Like I said in the pre-meet, this is like our second beginning as a women's program," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Greg Roy. "A lot of young and new athletes and to see them at the end of the meet like that. It was a two-point meet, we told them heading into the relay and they competed. That says something to the whole team, thought it was a great statement. A great statement by this team and a statement win. A fantastic launching point for our season."
