Hamilton and van den Noort Earn BIG EAST Honors

STORRS, Conn. – Sophie Hamilton has been honored as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Claire van den Noort has been selected as the league Freshman of the Week for their efforts in leading the No. 7 University of Connecticut field hockey team to a pair of wins over Quinnipiac, as announced by the BIG EAST on Tuesday.
Hamilton and van den Noort have not earned these respective honors twice this season.
Sophomore midfielder Sophie Hamilton scored three goals and dished-out four assists during a 2-0 week for UConn. Hamilton, who was credited with the game-winning goal in both wins this week, scored a goal and added two assists during Friday's 7-0 victory at Quinnipiac. She followed that up by scoring UConn's first two goals, and adding a pair of assists, during the Huskies' 8-0 win over the Bobcats on Sunday. Hamilton leads the team with 11 goals and nine assists in eight games this season.
Freshman midfielder scored four goals and dished-out three assists during last week. Her four goals came during UConn's 7-0 win at Quinnipiac on Friday and she added three assists in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Bobcats. Those four goals were the first of her career and she has also added seven assists during her first year in a UConn uniform.
The Huskies are back in action this weekend when they travel to Philadelphia for a two-game set against Villanova. Both Saturday and Sunday's game times are set for 12 p.m.
