Schedule Update - Hockey East Quarterfinals at Freitas Ice Forum this Sunday

STORRS, Conn. - The 2021 Hockey East postseason tournament gets underway this week and the UConn Huskies will be the No. 4 seed in this year's tournament, hosting a quarterfinal match-up with the No. 5 seed Providence College on Sunday, March 14. The Huskies will host their first playoff game since the 2016 Hockey East opening round.
Sunday's quarterfinal game will be a 3:30 pm start and will be available to stream on CollegeSportsLive. This will be the fourth meeting this season between UConn and Providence but the first-ever meeting in the postseason. The Huskies won both games on their home ice, a 2-0 decision back in December and a 5-3 win last Friday night in the regular season finale. The Friars posted a 4-0 win at home in February.
UConn finished the regular season at 10-10-2, good for fourth place and the program's highest finish since joining the conference in 2014-15. This marks the Huskies return to the Hockey East postseason for the first time since the 2017-18 season when they were the #5 seed and fell in the quarterfinals to #4 seed Boston University. UConn was the #5 seed again last season and scheduled to head to #4 seed Maine before seeing the tournament canceled due to the pandemic. UConn's only time hosting a post season game in Hockey East came in 2015-16 as the #8 seed when the lost in two-games to #9 seeded Vermont.
The tournament will open up with Wednesday's oepning round games between #7 seed UMass Lowell and #10 seed Vermont and #8 seed Maine and #9 seeded New Hampshire. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, March 17 and the championship is slated for Saturday, March 20, all the home sites of the higher seeds.
