Huskies Back Home to Host UConn Dog Fight

STORRS, Conn. โ The UConn track & field teams return home to the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex this weekend to host their second meet of the outdoor season this weekend.ย The women will compete on Friday, April 9 and the men will be in action on Saturday, April 10.
This weekend's meet will be a scored meet and fans can follow the live results HERE.ย Both Husky teams won their first home earlier this season, the UConn Spring Invite.ย The Huskies will be welcoming UAlbany, Northeastern, Rhode Island and Southern Connecticut State to campus for this weekend's event.
"We are really excited with how our women's program is progressing this spring," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Greg Roy.ย "Our trajectory is on the upswing and we are getting there fast.ย In two weeks, we have made big strides and we are heading in the right direction.ย Really happy with what we have seen to this point."
The Huskies have been led on the track by junior Shanelle Coleman (East Brunswick, N.J.) who is coming off setting a new PR in the 400 meters and took home a second-place finish at last weekend's USF meet.ย Colmon clocked in at 55.29 seconds, topping her top time from her lone race back during the indoor season.
Junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) is coming off a record setting performance last weekend.ย She set a new PR and new UConn Outdoor school record, clearing a height of 3.85 meters at the USF meet.ย She also holds the school indoor mark (4.10 meters).
Freshman Zayin Roe (Richmond, Va.) came up big in the triple jump and shot to the top of the BIG EAST rankings, posting a leap of 12.33 meters in Florida last week.
Senior Chanell Botsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia) leads the Husky throwers and is ranked first in the conference in the hammer throw (61.09m) and second in the javelin (46.88m).
"Albany, Northeastern, and URI are three of the better programs in the northeast." stated Roy.ย "From a team perspective, this is pretty much the 'neighborhood meet' for the northeast, so we want to take care of business."
"We are putting everyone out there this weekend," said Roy.ย "No one is sitting out.ย This may not be our eventual championship lineup, but it may be pretty close.ย Should be a great meet and we are really looking forward to it."
