No. 6 UConn, No. 3 Louisville to Face Off in NCAA Second Round

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The sixth-ranked UConn field hockey team (12-1) continues NCAA Tournament play vs. third-seeded and third-ranked Louisville (13-5) on Sunday in the Second Round at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.
UConn advanced to the Second Round with a 5-0 win over Rider on Friday. Freshman Claire van den Noort scored three goals in the win while sophomore Sophie Hamilton added two goals and two assists.
Louisville received a bye to the Second Round. Mercedes Pastor leads the Cardinals with 13 goals and 31 points. Sam Minrath has started all eight of Louisville's spring games and holds a 1.14 goals-against average and a .688 save percentage.
UConn is 16-2 all-time vs. Louisville. The teams last met in the 2015 NCAA First Round, which the Huskies won, 3-0. The teams were BIG EAST Conference foes from 2005-13.
The Huskies boast a rich NCAA Tournament history, which includes 32 appearances and national championships in 1981, 1985, 2013, 2014 and 2017. UConn owns the fifth-highest winning percentage in NCAA Tournament play at .644 (47-26) and its 47 victories rank fourth in tournament history.Â
The Connecticut defense has held the opposition scoreless in 11 of the 13 games it has played this season and the Huskies are outshooting the opposition by a 259-44 count.
