Manuel Leads UConn Golfers In Round 1 Of Regional

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Freshman Caleb Manuel shot a 1-over par 72 Monday to lead the UConn golf team on the first day of competition at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional at The Golf Club of Tennessee.
Manuel (Topsham, Me.) had three birdies and four bogeys to put him in a tie for 29th place in the 75-player field after Round 1 of the three-round tournament.
UConn, the No. 12 seed in the 13-team field, shot an aggregate 17-over 301 to place 12th with Rounds 2 and 3 slated for Tuesday and Wednesday. North Carolina State and Kent State each shot an aggregate 7-under 277 to set the pace after Round One. The top five teams at the regional, plus the top individual player not on one of those teams, will advance to the NCAA Golf Championship, one May 28-June 2 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Also for UConn, freshman Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) is tied for 47th place after his 3-over 74, senior Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) is tied for 59th with a 5-over 76, junior Jared Nelson (Ruland, Vt.) is tied for 65th after an 8-over 79, and freshman Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) is tied for 71st after a 10-over 81.
