HUSKIES FINISH FOURTH AT BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

HARDEEVILLE, SC – The UConn men's golf team wrapped up play at the BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP on Monday afternoon, finishing fourth overall in the field of 11 teams at the Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club
After Saturday's opening round was completely washed out by rain, the teams played 36-holes on Sunday to kick-off the tournament. The Huskies finished Sunday in fourth place after shooting a two-under 286 on the opening 18-holes and finished the day with a three-under 285 in round two.
On Monday, the Huskies kept it consistent and fired a 285 to finish the tournament at eight under and a total of 856. Xavier, who entered the final round three strokes back in second place, came out and ran away with the title on Monday shooting -13 under. The Musketeers bested the field at -21 under to grab the title and automatic berth to the NCAA Regional.
The Huskies were led by junior Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) who finished tied for sixth overall, notching his fifth top-10 finish of the season. Sawka was at or under par in all three rounds and finished five-under for the tournament. He carded a 69 and 70 over rounds one and two on Sunday and came back on Monday for a 72 to finish at 211.
Sophomore Matt Costello (Taunton, MA) had his best finish of the season, recording his first top-20 with a 15th place showing. Costello finished the first two rounds at five under, carding a 71 on the first 18 and a 68 on the second round. He posted a 75 on Monday to come in at 214 (-2) for the tournament.
Sophomore Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) just missed out on a top-20 finish, coming in tied for 21st overall. Huang posted a 70 over his first 18 holes and was at 76 on the second round. He battled back on Monday to fire a one-under 71 to finish the tournament at 217.
Senior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) was tied for 30th overall in his final BIG EAST Championship appearance. Goode shot a 76 on the first round and rebounded to shoot 72 and 71 over the second and third rounds to finish at 219.
Freshman Brennan Korn (Scottsdale, AZ) rounded out the UConn lineup, finishing tied for 44th overall, shooting 223 (77-75-71).
