Five Huskies Garner IWLCA All-Region Honors

STORRS, Conn. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced their Division I All-Region teams with five Huskies earning All-Northeast Region honors for this season.
UConn senior Sydney Watson (Prince Fredrick, Md.) was named to the Northeast Region first team and juniors Grace Coon (Marcellus, N.Y.), Lia LaPrise (Windsor, Conn.) and Landyn White (Alpharetta, Ga.) and sophomore Ariana Kline (Reading, Pa.) were named to the second team. The five players honored matches a program high for IWLCA All-Region selections, previous set in 2016.
The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2021. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will announce the 2021 All-American teams and Players of the Year in June.Â
Watson earns all-region honors for the third time in her career, being named to the second team in 2018 and 2019. Over 17 games this season, she piled up 69 points on 56 goals and 13 assists. Her 56 goals are second all-time in the UConn record book for goals in a season. Her 69 points rank 5th all-time for a season and her 126 shots are the second highest single season total in school history.
She took 126 shots, had five game-winning goals and scored 15 times on free position attempts. She was tops in the BIG EAST in goals, goals per game and free position goals. She also led the conference with 136 draw controls on the year, ninth nationally at 8.00 per game. She was one of 25 players nominated for the prestigious Tewaarton Award and was a unanimous selection for BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year as well as an All-BIG EAST first team pick.
LaPrise led the BIG EAST in points she posted 78 points on 37 goals and 41 assists over 19 games played this season. Her 78 points is 18th nationally and her 41 assists rank 13th. She finished the season second in the UConn record book for assists in a season and third for points in a season. Her seven-assist game against Denver (4/9/21) tied the school record for assists in a game. She was a unanimous All-BIG EAST first team pick.
Coon had a break-out season this spring, finishing second on the team with 41 goals scored. Over 17 games, she had 45 total points and averaged 2.41 goals per game, fifth in the BIG EAST. She finished the year with a .612 shot percentage to lead the league and sit 14th nationally. She was selected to the All-BIG EAST second team.
White started all 19 games in the cage this season and finished the year with 167 saves, an 11.78 goals against average and a .447 save percentage. She led the BIG EAST and is third in the country in saves made while her 167 stops is tied for seventh in the UConn record book for saves in a season. She also led the BIG EAST averaging 2.79 ground balls per game. Her 12 wins on the season tied the school record for a season. She earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST second team as well.
Kline established herself as one of the top-defenders in the BIG EAST this season. Playing in all 19 games, she finished the season with 34 ground balls, 30 caused turnovers and 33 draw controls and earned herself a spot on the All-BIG EAST second team. She ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in caused turnovers per game at 1.58.
