Emma Chee Break School Mark at NCAA Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The second day of the NCAA East Preliminaries took place on Thursday and the UConn women got their first chance to compete on the week with the highlight coming from junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) who set a new school record in the pole vault.
The UConn men will be back in action on Friday and the women are back on the track on Saturday to close out the event at the University of North Florida's Jax Track at Hodges Stadium.
For the third time this spring, Chee set a new school outdoor record in the event. Chee finished 21st overall, clearing a height of 4.07 meters on her first attempts. She opened at 3.77 meters and got it on her second try. She cleared her next height at 3.92 meters on her final attempt to move on to 4.07 meters.
"Solid day for our women Huskies today. highlighted by Emma Chee who had a personal best and a new school record in the pole vault," stated associate head coach Rich Miller. "She struggled early finding her rhythm but kept fighting back through a long hot three-hour competition. I was impressed with the way she performed when nothing came easy to her."
"Chanell Botsis had a strong performance in the hammer throw today," stated Miller. "Chanell finished a great career today."
Thursday's Other Results:
- In the Hammer – Senior Chanell Botsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia) finished in 19th place overall and had her best throw of the day on her final attempt coming in at 60.67 meters.
- In the 200 meters – Junior Shanelle Colmon (East Brunswick, N.J.) finished 44th in the first round, clocking in at 24.24 seconds.
