ZABACK MISSES CUT BY 1 STROKE
UConn Athletic Communications / June 18, 2021
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – UConn golf team alumni Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) and Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) ended their play in the 121st U.S. Open Friday at the finish of Round 2 at Torrey Pines South Golf Course.
Although neither of the former Huskies made the cut, just earning one of only 156 berths in the Open – out of more than 8,600 golfers who tried to qualify – is an impressive accomplishment.
Zaback, a 2016 UConn grad, finished his two rounds at 5-over, 75-72=147, missing the cut by just one stroke and finishing in a 12-player tie for 72nd place. He finished ahead of PGA Tour standouts Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson, Tony Finau, Webb Simpson and Justin Rose.
Hervol, who graduated from UConn in 2019, gained valuable professional experience despite a 17-over, 79-80=159. Hervol currently holds conditional status on the MacKenzie Tour.
